Enjoyed my visit to your site. I would like to have seen a photograph of the village!! I am sure it has changed over the years. Spent many happy holidays there during the summer months in the 50’s stayed with my late Uncle Ted McCarthy

Hello Joan, welcome back to Coppeen!,

We will do our best to fulfill your wish to see an image of the village. I did a fairly comprehensive history of the village in our first book ‘Coppeen, a glimpse of the past’ Maybe I’ll pull some images from this onto the website for you! The changing of the road route made a profound change to the appearance of the village. During the 50s the road ran behind McCarthy’s shop. Then, a new road was built south of the village which took all the road traffic away from the shops. The old road at the rear of the shop then became an almost private space. I too, have great memories of Ted & Mrs McCarthy, from a daily customer’s perspective. Please give us a shout if you’re in the area again.

      Best regards,
      Colum Cronin
