Remembering Ricard O'Sullivan Burke 1833-1922

A Memorial unveiling and talk on Ricard O’Sullivan Burke, soldier, patriot, fenian and colonel in the American Civil War will take place as part of CAHCS’ Heritage Week Event.  Ricard was born near Kinneigh in 1838.  In fact a section of the road just beside Kinneigh is still called “Burke’s Hill”  Brian Crowley M.E.P. will perform the official unveiling.  Mary C. Lynch who is a great grand niece of Ricard O’Sullivan Burke has initiated the erection of this monument to commemorate the life of her famous great grand uncle.  In 1999, Mary produced a biography entitled “O’Sullivan Burke FENIAN”  Ricard’s parents & relations are buried in a nearby grave which has been recently refurbished.  Following the official ceremonies in Kinneigh, refreshments will be served in An Caipín Bar Coppeen.
